Human safety remains uncertain
Selank & Semax
FDA identifies important gaps in human safety information for selank acetate and limited safety information for semax preparations.
Keep the context
This safety assessment does not establish improved cognition. A focus-related catalog tag is not evidence that a product will help you concentrate.
A good question
What human evidence measures cognition with this exact formulation, and what safety questions remain?
STEP 1 studied semaglutide in 1,961 adults over 68 weeks. SURMOUNT-1 studied tirzepatide in 2,539 adults over 72 weeks. Both assessed body weight and safety against placebo in defined populations.
Keep the context
These trials studied specific investigational drug products. Their results do not verify the identity or quality of a supplier’s research material.
A good question
Does the evidence concern this exact product, use, and patient group?
A 2023 randomized phase 2 trial enrolled 338 adults and tested activity at three hormone receptors: GLP-1, GIP and glucagon. It assessed weight outcomes and adverse events over 48 weeks.
Keep the context
This is an example study, not a complete review. FDA’s current GLP-1 page states retatrutide is not a component of an approved drug. A research strip or vial cannot borrow a trial’s results.
A good question
What did the trial test, and what remains unresolved?
The EGRIFTA WR label describes reducing excess abdominal fat in adults with HIV-associated lipodystrophy. It explicitly excludes general weight-loss management.
Keep the context
The label also notes that long-term cardiovascular safety is not established. The approval does not make a research-catalog vial the approved medicine.
A good question
Is a claim being extended beyond the population in the label?
FDA granted Forzinity accelerated approval for Barth syndrome in patients weighing at least 30 kg. The decision used a muscle-strength measure considered reasonably likely to predict benefit.
Keep the context
A confirmatory trial is required. This is not approval for general energy, longevity, or a supplier’s SS-31 research vial.
A good question
Was the measured outcome a direct benefit or a proxy for one?
FDA describes limited safety information for BPC-157 and reports no identified human-exposure data for the specific TB-500 fragment it evaluated.
Keep the context
FDA’s fragment description is not interchangeable with every “thymosin beta-4” label. Combining ingredients does not establish a blend’s clinical benefit.
A good question
Which exact molecule—and which blend—was actually studied?
A 2006 study of long-acting CJC-1295 measured growth-hormone and IGF-I levels in healthy adults. It did not test a no-DAC/ipamorelin blend or establish improved strength or longevity.
Keep the context
FDA separately notes limited CJC-1295 clinical data and safety concerns for ipamorelin. A change in a hormone level is not itself proof of a health benefit.
A good question
Was the outcome a hormone level, or something meaningful to patients?
A 2015 study explored a 16-amino-acid, mitochondria-derived peptide in cells and mice, including metabolic effects in mouse models.
Keep the context
That work does not establish an anti-aging treatment for people. FDA identifies important human-exposure and safety-information gaps for MOTS-c preparations.
A good question
Are findings from a mouse model being presented as a human benefit?
